see you later alligator in a while crocodile 2.4 billion years later been a while I missed you
Cartoon-like illustrations show microorganisms saying goodbye with the rhymes “see you later, alligator” and “in a while, crocodile.” After 2.4 billion years, the alligator and crocodile reunite, humorously treating evolutionary time as a long separation between friends. It is used as a reaction to an extremely delayed reunion or a very long absence.
