Anime DJ Drops Samurai Classics

STRICTLY HIP HOP CLASSICS

An animated masked DJ scratches a record labeled “STRICTLY HIP HOP CLASSICS,” then the clip cuts through dramatic nighttime samurai imagery, swordplay, lantern-lit streets, and a cozy Japanese bar before fading to black. MC Ren’s “I Don’t Give a Damn,” a hard-edged West Coast hip-hop track, gives the stylish anime montage an unapologetic, defiant swagger; the joke is the exaggerated presentation of simply playing an old-school rap record as if it were an epic battle. It works as a reaction to confidently rejecting something or embracing an intense “I don’t care” attitude.
