Political Right Diversity Graph

There is more diversity of thought on the political Right than on the political Left. Although they pride themselves on open-mindedness, liberal thinking actually coalesces around a very narrow set of opinion, whereas the Right diverges widely. FIGURE 2 Extracted attitude network. (a) A visual representation of the extracted attitude network revealing a distribution of forty attitudes into two clusters. Note: Dark Blue = Strong Disagreement; Pale Blue = Moderate Disagreement; Grey = Neutral; Orange = Moderate Agreement; Red = Strong Agreement. (b) Two attitude clusters depicting latent Democrat (blue) and Republican (red) belief-systems.

A political meme shows a network graph with a small blue cluster on the left and a much larger, widely connected red cluster on the right. The caption argues that liberal opinions converge into a narrow set, while conservative opinions are more diverse and divergent. It is used as a reaction in political debates to mock claims that the political left is more open-minded or ideologically diverse.
