The Girls Are Fighting Misogyny
peaked in on bluesky to see how they are taking the day and People keep saying, about the Elon vs. Trump drama, “the girls are fighting.” You realize that’s misogyny, right? And it’s not clever. Mocking two egomaniacal billionaires shouldn’t come at the expense of women. If your insult relies on misogyny, it’s not the burn you think it is. One thing that annoys me about this is having self-professed progressives go on about "the girls are fighting"—it's two grown-ass white men having a childish spat and throwing public tantrums that will have very real collateral casualties, and the misogyny in calling them girls always escapes them.
A Bluesky screenshot shows two posts criticizing the phrase “the girls are fighting” used to describe the public feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. The joke is a meta-commentary on how calling two adult men “girls” to mock them relies on misogyny and trivializes the real-world consequences of their behavior. It is shared as a reaction against supposedly progressive commentary that still uses sexist insults.
