Object vs Concept Permanence

WOAH! THE BLOCK ISN’T GONE! IT’S JUST OUT OF SIGHT FOR THE MOMENT! I’LL BE FINE! WOAH! NO HOPE WAS EVER LOST! IT’S JUST OUT OF SIGHT FOR THE MOMENT! I’LL BE FINE! OBJECT PERMANENCE (6 MONTHS OLD) CONCEPT PERMANENCE (23 YEARS OLD)

Two cartoon cats illustrate the difference between object permanence and concept permanence. The younger cat reassures itself that a missing block is merely out of sight, while the older cat insists that lost hope is only temporarily out of sight. The joke is a relatable exaggeration about childhood object permanence versus an adult’s anxious optimism.
