A line chart shows U.S. suicide rates among people ages 15 to 24 from 1981 to 2017, with a large increase by 2017. The chart sarcastically labels the low point around the 2000s as the “Golden age of internet and video games,” implying that those supposedly carefree years were associated with worsening outcomes afterward. It is shared as a dark, ironic reaction to nostalgia for the early internet and gaming era.
