Monarchs in the Modern Era
Monarchs in the modern era: Ok, so you gotta call yourself the "German Emperor" instead of the "Emperor of Germany" Saxony and Bavaria will get off our case if you do because they don't wanna feel like they're losing their status as king once you become emperor of the unified Germany, and it implies that all the leaders in the confederation are at equal footing (they're not) Also "Germany" as a concept doesn't really exist right now. "Germany" is more of an ethnicity than a nationality and there are Germans outside of our realm Monarchs in the ancient era: I'M THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!
The top panel shows two formal, modern-era German monarchs arguing over the precise title “German Emperor” versus “Emperor of Germany,” reflecting the political sensitivities of the German Confederation. The bottom panel shows three exaggerated ancient rulers proudly declaring themselves kings of the entire universe. The joke contrasts bureaucratic modern constitutional nuance with the absurd grandiosity of ancient monarchs.
