What it means

A montage of Rust Cohle from True Detective walking through fields, examining photographs, working in a dark office, sitting at a desk, carrying a case file, riding in a car, and looking shocked. The joke is that someone has spent three months obsessively investigating who Taylor Swift is, treating a trivial pop-culture question like a grim criminal case. The montage is set to The Handsome Family’s “Far From Any Road,” whose dark, slow Americana mood makes the overreaction feel dramatically serious and absurd.
