Text on the meme
When I was doing NSFW art (on Twitter), there was a window of opportunity that was within 1-2 days of a new character/a new game/a new anime/etc being released or leaked where you could have your posts do numbers (serious follower gain as opposed to the usual likes and retweets), before the big guys came in 3-4 days later with their fucking fine art renders and shit. The way we used to do it was we'd set up as much as we could on announcement so that as soon as it's released/leaked we'd have as much of the piece done as possible. For example, this was released back in December afaik. Do you know how much legwork you can get done with just this? Then when the full release or leak comes around, you only have a few hours of work left to get the details down and you're off. Why does this read to me like an old moonshiner or smuggler in the 50s reminiscing about the good old days to some youngsters in the pub, lmao "Those were the days. You could make as much as a cobbler makes in a year in a single Great Firewall blockade run, transporting penguins across the border, in a false tooth flash drive, for the lustful gweilo to enjoy. One time got arrested by a Red Guard lieutenant, thought i was a goner, but luckily he was a gooner so we managed to make a deal."
What it means

A dark-mode Reddit screenshot shows a post about making NSFW art quickly after a new character, game, or anime is announced or leaked, before larger artists publish polished renders. A commenter jokes that the post sounds like an old smuggler reminiscing about illegal internet-era exploits, inventing a colorful story about transporting penguins and bribing a Red Guard lieutenant. The meme is used to mock nostalgic storytelling and the oddly criminal, old-timer tone of the original post.
