Arch Linux Man Page Advice
2018-06-02 05:30:26 I noticed using pacman's --force option results in the message: warning: option --force is deprecated; use --overwrite instead So I tried replacing the option and the result is: pacman --overwrite -S MYPACKAGE error: invalid option --overwrite pacman -S --overwrite MYPACKAGE error: no targets specified man pacman says overwrite requires a <glob> argument - what is that? The Arch Wiki still advises to use --force btw (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/pacman) Can you help me? Read the man page, figure out what --overwrite is very useful, thanks so much. please remember to mark your threads [Solved]
A collage of screenshots from an Arch Linux forum shows a user struggling to use pacman's --overwrite option. Another user sarcastically tells them to read the manual page, followed by an unhelpfully smug reply and a reminder to mark the thread solved. The joke is about dismissive tech-support advice and the irony of the supposedly helpful response.
