Dressed Fancy, Living Empty
Please don’t just assume that your friend who walks around town dressed fancy is living large. For many of us it’s all for show.
A nearly empty room contains only a top hat and a cane, visually suggesting someone who appears stylish and well-off but has very little behind the appearance. The joke is about “living large” being merely for show, and it is used as a humorous reaction to performative wealth or looking fancy without substance.
