Nothing Matters, Everything Is Pointless
“nothing matters and everything is pointless”
A rapid montage pairs solemn, cinematic close-ups of serious men with carefree footage of people boating, working, laughing, relaxing at the beach, and enjoying absurd adventures. The repeated line “nothing matters and everything is pointless” becomes funny because the dramatic existential despair is contrasted with cheerful, chaotic action. Cass Elliot’s upbeat pop song “Make Your Own Kind of Music” makes the irony even stronger, turning the gloomy statement into a playful reaction meme.
