The Hand Defeats the Cat

Text on the meme

The Hand YOU DIED

What it means

A gray tabby cat is shown in a Dark Souls III-style boss fight overlay, labeled “The Hand,” while a human hand approaches and the cat moves around on the floor. The dramatic boss music makes the harmless cat seem like a terrifying enemy, but the clip ends with the classic “YOU DIED” screen as an absurd punchline. It works as a reaction to being defeated by something cute or unexpectedly powerful, accompanied by Motoi Sakuraba’s ominous orchestral track “Vordt, Of the Borealis Valley.”
