They Ate the Mountain

Text on the meme

What happened? RIO, BRAZIL, 1970 RIO, BRAZIL, 2021 I think they ate the mountain.

What it means

A split-image comparison shows a crowded beach in Rio de Janeiro in 1970 with a prominent mountain behind it, followed by a 2021 beach photo where the mountain is no longer visible. The joke suggests that the modern crowd is so large, they must have eaten the mountain. It is used as an absurd reaction to overcrowding or dramatic change over time.
