Pepe Person of the Year
DOUBLE ISSUE DEC. 20, 2022 / JAN. 2, 2023 PERSON OF THE YEAR APU APUSTAJA & THE SPIRIT OF FRENDSHIP
A parody magazine cover presents a giant sad-looking Pepe the Frog surrounded by many smaller Pepe characters, including figures with Ukrainian colors and clothing. The headline names Apu Apustaja and celebrates the “spirit of frendship,” humorously treating the Pepe community and its supportive, chaotic internet culture as Time’s Person of the Year. It is used as an ironic reaction to solidarity, online camaraderie, or an absurdly grand group achievement.
