Reading elven history until I laugh

What it means

A bearded fantasy dwarf sits at a cluttered desk, writing in a large book surrounded by shelves and old manuscripts. The joke is that he is reading elven history with such intense seriousness that he is waiting for something funny to happen, making it a reaction to tedious or overly long text.
