Orangutan Refuses to Talk
In 1631, a Dutch physician reported that Malays had informed him the orangutan could talk, but preferred not to "lest he be compelled to labour". [5]
A shaggy orangutan sits in a tree holding a branch and eating. The joke is that it supposedly refuses to speak because it fears being forced to work, making it a reaction to avoiding responsibilities or unpaid labor.
