Depression and Homosexuality Books
Depression The Way Up When You Are Down EDWARD T. WELCH Homosexuality Speaking the Truth in Love EDWARD T. WELCH
Two books titled “Depression” and “Homosexuality” are shown above an anime image of Shinji and Kaworu from Evangelion. The joke contrasts a Christian self-help book about depression with a book about homosexuality, then uses the clearly intimate pairing of the two characters as an ironic visual punchline. It is typically shared as an absurd or suggestive reaction to discussions of sexuality, repression, or Evangelion’s subtext.
