A Wizard Is Never Late
A wizard is never late nor early He has a fractured, torturous relationship with time; he disappears from his friends; he anticipates the distant future but fails to foresee tomorrow; he explores obscurities at inopportune times; he undermines his own ability to be reliable; he destroys the present for the future and is thus trapped in the past; also he is actually late all the time.
Gandalf is shown in a solemn close-up beneath the famous claim that a wizard is never late or early. The long caption humorously overanalyzes the quote, arguing that Gandalf has a dysfunctional relationship with time and is, in fact, always late. It is used as an absurd reaction to someone making excuses for being late or unreliable.
