Chat as a Fourth-Person Pronoun
Have I told you guys that all my students say "chat" all the time? It's baked into their speech patterns. "Chat, is this real?" a dozen times a day something to be horrified by: "chat" might be legitimately be the first dedicated 4th person pronoun
A dark-mode social media screenshot shows one post about students constantly saying “chat,” followed by a reply joking that “chat” could become the first dedicated fourth-person pronoun. The joke treats streamer and internet slang as a grammatical innovation, exaggerating how often people address an online audience.
