Saint Vitalis Walks Into the Joke
Ok thanks for the money. We can get to it I guess but aren't you a little old for th- So Saint John said “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was God.” A monk of Gaza, Vitalis travelled to the city of Alexandria at the age of sixty. His legend states that after obtaining the name and address of every prostitute in the city, he hired himself out as a day laborer, and took his wage to one of these women at the end of the day. He would hire the woman for the night and, according to legend, spend the night praying for her or preaching to her.[1][2] This practice was condemned by the Church, and many prostitutes in the city abandoned their profession and became wives and mothers.
A split-panel meme juxtaposes a woman reacting to an older man who appears to be paying her, while the man quotes a biblical passage. The adjacent text explains the legend of Saint Vitalis of Gaza, who paid prostitutes to spend the night praying or preaching instead of having sex. The joke comes from the woman beginning to assume a sexual proposition before the religious twist interrupts her.
