Girlhood Is a Spectrum
girlhood is a spectrum directed by women
The meme contrasts Barbie smiling brightly in her pink world with Patrick Bateman covered in blood from American Psycho. It jokes that “girlhood” can range from hyper-feminine joy to intense, violent masculine imagery, presenting both as media directed by women. People share it as an ironic reaction to the broad and contradictory ways femininity is represented online.
