Diablo IV Lilith Concept Art

Lilith Banished for eons yet integral to the history of the Eternal Conflict, the Daughter of Hatred was one of the fabled renegades who created the human world of Sanctuary. And yet, despite her long absence as she languishes in the abyss . . . she shall return. The Mother of Sanctuary will come back to her children, and it shall be a great and terrible day for them all. Lilith has appeared only briefly in the Diablo games, during Diablo II's Pandemonium Event, though her presence has been felt for many points of the story. Lilith's debut in Diablo IV is a reimagining of her form that is far different from her previous appearance (see page 236). Her new design represents “a great example of ‘plussing,’” according to Art Director John Mueller, which is a collaborative process during which one artist takes another's concept, affirms what he or she likes about it, and tries to add a new idea of his or her own. “Victor Lee did the initial design for Lilith. Then Brom did his own iteration of things and tried different things,” says Mueller. “We always really liked that about any kind of IP: letting really talented artists get ahold of things and then letting them do their version of it. We're doing that with a lot of the characters in the new game.” ABOVE Demon Sigil • Diablo III • Banner Icon LEFT Lilith Portrait • Diablo III • Sigil Icon BELOW Lilith Concept • Diablo IV • John Polidora
