The Earth Is Degenerating

"It's so over." "The earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching." - Assyrian tablet, c. 2800 BC

A modern-looking quote about societal decline and the imminent end of the world is humorously attributed to an ancient Assyrian tablet from around 2800 BC, shown beside an ancient cuneiform tablet. The joke is that complaints about younger generations and moral decay are timeless, so every era believes its own world is collapsing.
