War Nostalgia Meets Food Rationing

Text on the meme

I miss the days when men went to war and never came back There was food rationing back then. You sure?

What it means

A woman’s social media comment nostalgically says she misses the days when men went to war and never came back. Another commenter points out that those times also involved food rationing, undercutting the romanticized view of war with a practical reminder. The meme is used as a sarcastic reaction to naïve nostalgia or selective longing for the past.
