Putting a Drowned Brother in Rice

I’m gonna have to take a few days off. My little brother drowned in his pool yesterday afternoon Did anyone try putting him in rice? Lol just kidding take as much time as you need

An iMessage exchange shows someone telling a colleague that their little brother drowned, followed by an insensitive joke about putting him in rice, a common remedy for water-damaged electronics. The sender immediately retracts the joke and offers sympathy, making the humor come from the catastrophically inappropriate timing and awkward recovery.
