Ancient Tablet Predicts Doom
t's so over. "The earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching." - Assyrian tablet, c. 2800 BC
A distressed cartoon figure stands beside an ancient Mesopotamian tablet while a quote claims that society is collapsing because of corruption, disobedient children, and aspiring writers. The joke is that people have complained about the end of the world for thousands of years, making modern doomposting seem timeless. It is shared as a reaction to exaggerated complaints about societal decline.
