Popeye stands on a ship deck beside several identical sailors whose names are ridiculous variations of his own. The joke is that despite having only one chance at life, the sailor’s parents chose the embarrassing name “Poopeye,” making him the butt of the joke; it is used as an absurd reaction to unfortunate names or bad luck.
