Apocalypto Theater Family Chaos
My father brings this experience up all the time, and it happened 17 years ago. We saw Apocalypto in the theater, the Mel Gibson Aztec movie. Halfway through, a family with two much older parents (or maybe grandparents), an 8 year old, and a baby in a stroller, entered the theater. It was like a fucking improv show had started. They didn't sit down. The baby was bawling, the little boy was running around and shouting at what was happening on the screen, which was extremely violent. And the parents were just staring at everyone else in the theater, daring anyone to say something. It was like they brought the kids to the park. I was pretty young, and that was the day I learned my father's opinions about people.
A narrator recalls watching Mel Gibson’s violent Aztec film Apocalypto in a theater when a family entered with a crying baby and an unruly child. The family treats the theater like a public playground while the parents silently challenge anyone to object. The joke is the absurd mismatch between the extremely violent movie and the family’s complete disregard for the theater audience, ending with the narrator learning his father’s prejudiced opinions about people.
