Girls and Boys Having a Mental Breakdown

girls having a mental breakdown boys having a mental breakdown

What it means

The video contrasts a girl having an intense, visibly emotional breakdown while clutching a Minion plush toy with a calm man in a dim diner and doorway, played by Ryan Gosling in Drive. The joke is the exaggerated stereotype that girls express a mental breakdown dramatically, while boys supposedly process the same crisis in silence and stoic coolness. Kavinsky’s synthwave track “Nightcall” gives the boys’ side a cinematic, melancholic mood and makes the deadpan reaction especially funny.
