The Departed Boston Accent Joke

A gritty crime thriller about sacrifice, betrayal, and the conflict between self-identity and morality, set in the Boston underworld Wow I got to see Marky Mark and Matt Damon roast people and say slurs in a Bawston accent, shippin up to bawstoon heyyy THE DEPARTED LEONARDO DiCAPRIO MATT DAMON JACK NICHOLSON and MARK WAHLBERG OCTOBER 06

The meme contrasts a serious, scholarly description of The Departed with an exaggerated fan’s crude summary of seeing Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon insult people in a Boston accent. The joke mocks overly pretentious movie analysis by reducing the acclaimed crime thriller to its actors, profanity, and Boston stereotypes. It is used as a reaction to sarcastically describe a sophisticated film in a deliberately shallow way.
