No Date on Hugging Day
National Hugging Day > Date (2024) Sun, Jan 21, 2024 JANUARY 21
A lonely-looking man in a car smokes and stares blankly beneath a calendar-style notification for National Hugging Day, showing January 21, 2024. The joke is that a day devoted to hugs has arrived, but he has no date or anyone to hug, turning the slow, melancholic reaction into a relatable loneliness meme. The clip is accompanied by the dreamy, subdued electronic music of Sultan + Shepard — “Bloom (Intro Mix),” which heightens the feeling of quiet resignation.
