The Most Liberal Man in Japan
THE MOST LIBERAL Shinzo Abe (安倍 晋三, Abe Shinzō, IPA: [abe ɕindzoː]; born 21 September 1954) is a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party Abe is affiliated with the openly ultranationalist organization Nippon Kaigi (Japan Conference).[10] Nippon Kaigi believes that "Japan should be applauded for liberating much of East Asia from Western colonial powers; that the 1946–1948 Tokyo War Crimes tribunals were illegitimate; and that killings by Imperial Japanese troops during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre were exaggerated or fabricated".[Note 1][23][35][36] Nippon Kaigi is opposed to feminism, LGBT rights, and the 1999 Gender Equality Law.[28] LIBERAL MAN IN JAPAN
The meme shows a Wikipedia-style excerpt about former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, surrounded by the captions “THE MOST LIBERAL” and “LIBERAL MAN IN JAPAN.” The joke is ironic: the text describes Abe’s affiliation with an ultranationalist organization and its opposition to feminism, LGBT rights, and historical accounts of Japanese war crimes, making the claim that he is liberal absurd. It is used as a reaction to mock someone or something being labeled liberal despite strongly conservative or nationalist views.
