Silent Hill 2 Music Lecture

Me: You like Silent Hill 2 OST, composed by Akira Yamaoka? My Therapist: Um, he's okay. Me: His early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Silent Hill 2 came out in '01, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Nobuo Uematsu, but I think Akira has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

A suited man resembling Patrick Bateman stands in a room full of audio equipment and proudly holds the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack. The joke parodies Bateman’s pretentious monologue about music from American Psycho by applying it to Akira Yamaoka’s video game soundtrack. It is sent as a reaction to mock someone who overanalyzes or presents a niche musical opinion with excessive confidence.
