Lupa and Pupa Accounting Joke

Explain me next joke: Once upon a time, Lupa and Pupa went to the accounting department to get their salary. But accountants messed everything up, so Lupa recieved salary of Pupa, and Pupa - of Lupa. Consider that only Russians founds this joke funny, it could be important. This joke relies on an understanding of the Russian language, wordplay, and cultural context. Lupa and Pupa are not real names but are derived from Russian words that are intended to be humorous. The name "Lupa" is derived from the Russian word "лупа" (lupa), which means "magnifying glass," and "Pupa" comes from the word "пуп" (pup), which means "navel" or "belly button." The humor in the joke comes from the absurdity of naming characters after such random objects and how this absurdity is amplified by the mix-up at the accounting department. The joke also pokes fun at the inefficiency and bureaucratic confusion that can be associated with accounting departments or government offices. The mix-up of their salaries adds an extra layer of humor to the situation. In summary, this joke is funny to Russians because it combines linguistic wordplay with the names Lupa and Pupa, absurdity, and a gentle critique of bureaucratic inefficiency.

A screenshot shows a written joke about two absurdly named characters, Lupa and Pupa, whose salaries are accidentally switched by the accounting department. The explanation says the humor depends on Russian wordplay, cultural context, absurd names, and bureaucratic confusion. It is shared as a reaction to payroll mistakes, office inefficiency, or jokes that are difficult to translate.
