Mario Mushroom Life Cycle
Source: Super Mario 64 4 Koma Gag Battle (Japan), Shounen Oh Comics, 1996, ISBN 4-334-80355-5
A Super Mario mushroom peers over the ground while its long stem grows from the body of a fallen Mario below. The dark joke suggests that 1-UP mushrooms grow from dead Marios, turning the game’s extra lives into a grotesque cycle of life and death. It is used as an absurd reaction to unsettling video game lore or a disturbing realization.
