“TOO WHITE” The NHL for the first time has done an internal demographic study of its staff and all 32 teams, and it found that more than 90 percent of players and nearly all coaches and officials are white. The league will create “race and gender report cards” to change its hiring practices.

A hockey arena is shown above a news-style caption stating that over 90 percent of NHL players and nearly all coaches and officials are white. The joke points out the league’s racial homogeneity and frames it as an ironic “too white” demographic finding, making it suitable as a reaction to discussions about diversity and representation.
