Girlbossification of Opioid Addiction

the girlbossification of opioid addiction has arrived “Don't be ashamed you are using, be empowered that you are using safely.” FLORENCE, Manhattan What is Fentanyl? Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be found in heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and pressed pills. Why is it Dangerous? Fentanyl increases the risk of overdose especially among people who do not regularly use opioids. Prevent overdose: • Avoid using alone and take turns • Start with a small dose and go slowly • Have naloxone on hand • Avoid mixing drugs • Test your drugs using fentanyl test strips. LET'S PREVENT OVERDOSE, KEEP YOURSELF AND YOUR COMMUNITY SAFE. TO FIND SUPPORT, OR INCLUDING NALOXONE OR TREATMENT, CALL 1-888-NYC-WELL OR TEXT "WELL" TO 65173. Message and data rates may apply.

A screenshot shows a public-health poster featuring a woman in glasses and a sweater, with brightly colored motivational text encouraging people not to feel ashamed about using fentanyl and to use it safely. The joke comes from describing the poster’s harm-reduction messaging as the “girlbossification” of opioid addiction, parodying corporate empowerment language applied to a serious public-health crisis. People send this as an absurd reaction to sanitized, overly positive, or brand-like messaging about dangerous behavior.
