Google Tracking Before the Apocalypse
20 years ago, it was a scandal that Google started to track which links you clicked on the search-results page, Interesting that nobody made a big deal out of it. It's a pretty big deal to me, and I'm not even that privacy-centric. I am to some degree, but there are hundreds of thousands way more so than I. In terms of the cookie-clearing, that didn't seem to change anything. It still occurs. this is like finding a journal written by someone before the zombie apocalypse happened
A screenshot shows an old discussion about Google tracking which search-result links people clicked, followed by a modern reaction comparing it to discovering a journal written before the zombie apocalypse. The joke treats early internet privacy concerns as an ominous record from a lost civilization, emphasizing how normalized tracking has become.
