Kramer Explains the Great Work
Kramer, what's going on in there? It's the final stage of the Great Work, Jerry. The reddening by the sublimation of fire. The union of in spirit and matter. The abolition of man and woman. The transmutation of iron into gold. The philosopher's stone.
Kramer shows Jerry an alchemical painting depicting the sun while solemnly explaining the final stage of the Great Work, using dense occult and philosophical language. The joke comes from treating an absurdly mystical painting as a serious revelation, making it useful as a reaction to an overly elaborate explanation or bizarre situation.
