What it means

EN: Macro footage shows a female mosquito laying a pale oval raft of eggs on stagnant water. The video then shows the eggs and developing larvae before cutting to an adult mosquito feeding on blood. A dry synthesized voice delivers a serious scientific explanation, while the extreme and unusual insect close-ups create an absurd comedic effect.

Speech

This is how some mosquitoes lay their eggs. The eggs are laid together on the surface of stagnant water in an oval-shaped raft. These eggs are highly resilient, capable of surviving dry conditions for months until they come into contact with water, triggering the hatching process. Egg rafts usually consist of 150 to 300 eggs and float on the water surface until the larvae hatch and emerge. Once laid, the eggs require anywhere from a few days to several weeks to hatch, depending on environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. The eggs hatch into larvae, often called riglers, due to their jerky movements in the water as they feed on organic debris and microorganisms. The larvae continue their development under water, undergoing several stages of growth until they transform into adult mosquitoes. Luckily for us, not all of them make it into the adult stage. Some of them are eaten by dragonflies, fish, turtles, and frogs.
