PHONE SWAMP COLUMBIA, DESPITE HANDSETS WERE REPORTED TO THE MINISTRY OF PLACES

A VHS-style fake public-service announcement shows payphones, telephone switchboards, handsets, and other old telecommunication equipment scattered through a dark swamp and forest near Columbia. The ominous synthetic narration presents the bizarre “phone swamp” as a serious unexplained incident, making the absurd imagery funny through deadpan horror-documentary framing and an official Ministry of Places seal.

From Slomp, a sloth of mysterious telecommunication equipment has been discovered in the remote wilderness of Conquerie Slomp outside of Columbia, South Carolina. Telephones pay phones and switchboards litter the Slompie landscape with no indication of their origin or purpose. Despite no physical connection to surrounding infrastructure the equipment appears to be powered on and ready for use, dial tones emitted from the handsets indicate an established connection to a network of some sort. Despite the apparent functionality all attempts to connect to call from the equipment, Mehmed Mildarshi distorted momentary noises screaming back through the earpieces of the Horses-Aid who phones. Ministry agents testing the equipment each reported being struck with an intense sense of unease and nausea before vomiting profusely into the surrounding bag. Meanwhile residents are being asked to report any disturbance in their own attempts at telephonic communication. This has been a public service announcement from the Ministry of in places.
