Which Line Is Longer?
Which line is longer? Both lines are actually the same length. This is a classic optical illusion known as the Muller-Lyer illusion. The arrowheads on the ends of the two lines create a visual trick that makes the line with the outward-facing wings (on the bottom) appear shorter than the line with the inward-facing wings (on top), even though the lengths are identical.
Two pairs of lines with opposing arrowheads are shown, followed by an explanation of the Müller-Lyer optical illusion. The joke is that the lines look different in length even though they are identical, making this useful as a reaction to misleading appearances or confident but mistaken judgments.
