Newton and Leibniz Invent Calculus
NEWTON, 1666 I'VE INVENTED CALCULUS! LEIBNIZ, 1674 I'VE INVENTED CALCULUS! REALLY? SOUNDS A LITTLE BIT... ... DERIVATIVE.
A simple black-and-white comic shows Newton and Leibniz separately claiming to have invented calculus. The punchline is that Leibniz’s claim sounds “a little bit derivative,” joking about both mathematical derivatives and the accusation that his work derived from Newton’s. It is used as a reaction to plagiarism, imitation, or suspiciously similar ideas.
