Guts and Vakula From Hell
HELLO GUTS FROM HELLO VAKULA FROM ВИЙ ВЕЧЕРА НА ХУТОРЕ БЛИЗ ДИКАНЬКИ
A four-panel collage contrasts Guts from Berserk with Vakula from the Soviet adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s “Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka.” The joke is that both characters are presented as terrifying, hellish figures, despite coming from completely different fictional worlds. It is used as an absurd crossover reaction to compare extreme characters or unexpectedly dark versions of familiar heroes.
