Cox–Zucker Machine Obscenity Joke
Cox–Zucker machine Article Talk In arithmetic geometry, the Cox–Zucker machine is an algorithm created by David A. Cox and Steven Zucker. The name sounds similar to the obscenity "cocksucker". This was a deliberate choice by Cox and Zucker, who conceived of the idea of coauthoring a paper in 1970, while first-year graduate students at Princeton University, for the express purpose of enabling this joke. They followed through on it five years later, as members of the faculty at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.[3]
A screenshot styled like a Wikipedia article shows two Doge characters in suits behind an article about the Cox–Zucker machine in arithmetic geometry. The joke is that the legitimate mathematical name sounds like the obscenity “cocksucker,” supposedly chosen deliberately by its creators. It is shared as an absurd academic wordplay reaction to unexpectedly vulgar terminology.
