I Promise I Won’t Get Political

i promise i wont get political

What it means

A Yeni Rakı bottle remains on screen while a rapid slideshow of Turkish imagery appears: a Turkish flag underwater, a footballer, an Istanbul mosque, a weightlifter, a monumental building, military scenes, marching soldiers, and street unrest. The joke is that the promise not to become political immediately turns into an escalating montage of national, historical, and political references associated with Turkey. Katie’s “Ecstasy” plays as energetic music, making the montage feel increasingly dramatic and absurd as a reaction to someone claiming they will stay out of politics.
