Instagram Versus Open Camera

PROJECT BY @DRIESDEPOORTER INSTAGRAM OPEN CAMERA THE FLEMISH SCROLLERS AUTOMATICALLY TAGGING BELGIAN POLITICIAN WHEN THEY USE THEIR PHONE ON THE DAILY LIVESTREAMS WWW.DRIESDEPOORTER.BE

A split-screen video contrasts polished Instagram-style travel photos on the left with awkward surveillance-camera footage of the same kinds of people and places on the right. It ends by revealing “The Flemish Scrollers,” an artwork that automatically tags Belgian politicians using their phones during daily livestreams. The upbeat music makes the contrast playful and ironic, turning ordinary phone use into a public spectacle.
