Strict With Yourself

“Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself.” - Marcus Aurelius

A shirtless, muscular man performs an exaggerated, acrobatic dance in a forest beside a stream while the quote “Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself” appears on screen, attributed to Marcus Aurelius. The joke is the absurd contrast between the calm Stoic advice and his dramatically extreme demonstration of being “strict with yourself”; the clip ends with a TikTok outro. The audio uses upbeat classical music: Camerata Antonio Lucio, Emmy Verhey & Alun Francis performing the first movement of Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, creating an elegant yet comically over-serious mood.
