China’s Replicas of Famous Landmarks
taj_mahal_replica_(shenzhen).png Paris, France Shanghai Re-Education School, Xinjiang
A satirical narrated video uses map-zoom imagery and pop-up Windows-style image windows to show Chinese replicas of famous landmarks, including a Taj Mahal replica, a Tower Bridge replica in Jiangsu, and a leaning Tower of Pisa replica in Shanghai. The escalating joke ends by showing a Xinjiang re-education school as a sarcastic “copy” of the Holocaust, making the punchline deliberately dark and provocative. The synthetic narration and background music give the clip a deadpan, documentary-like tone that heightens the absurdity. Or you could even sidestep the foreign travel entirely by visiting one of China's many replicas of famous monuments. Why visit France, with its smelly French people, foreign languages and long plane ride, when you can just visit the replica in Tiangdecheng? Or visit the much bigger, much more impressive Tower Bridge replica in Jiangsu? Or the even more leaning Tower of Pisa in Shanghai? Hey look, they're even building a copy of the Holocaust!
